PETITE  LAKE  HIGHWOODS - A great place to live!
Because we are concerned about where we live, we have an active Crime Prevention Program that began in 1976.  It's successful because we're not just "individuals" versus crime, but "a community as a whole" working together to ensure a safe and tranquil environment for all.  This news page is a source of communication for that purpose.

OUR HISTORY
Petite Lake Highwoods formed the first Neighborhood Watch Community in Lake County and became one of the more CRIME-FREE subdivisions in the area.  If you would like to become part of a committee to help with ideas and to support an informational network throughout the subdivision, please let us know. (See phone numbers of Board Members.)

GENERAL INFORMATION
1.Curfew for kids up to 18 years old:  10:30 PM school nights Sunday through Thursday ~ Midnight on Friday & Saturday.

We have found down through the years, when something serious happens within the subdivision, kids who roam the streets at night stand the chance of being accused even if they are innocent. So we ask families to heed the warning. Please consider this when warm summer nights become an enticement for kids to walk the subdivision. Along with crime situations that might arise, walking on dark roads, with unknown cars driving through at all hours can in itself be dangerous.

2. Harassment ~ A reminder we print periodically:  If someone becomes a target of harassment because of a grievance, get this information out right away.  Never let anyone intimidate you or threaten your property.  Tell your neighbors and board members.  The police want to be notified immediately so they will have it on file.  Don't be quiet.  The person ending up with regrets is the one doing the harassment.

3. Residents coming home at night:  We like to have people make a drive-thru around the subdivision at night to take note of suspicious people or vehicles.  Get license plate, description, etc.

NOTE:  Parents are liable for ALL property damages in this subdivision.

It is a Federal crime to tamper with mail and/or mailboxParents, warn your children about this. Charges will be brought against anyone found guilty of taking mail or attempting to damage a mailbox. In January, a bottle of gasoline, an aerosol can, and firecrackers were used to try to blow up a mailbox in our subdivision. Anyone who witnesses a mailbox being tampered with should report it immediately to the Sheriff's Office and also to a member of the board so information can be circulated to homeowners.

CRIME PREVENTION WORKSThink about prevention before you become a victim. We need help from our youngsters along with adults. Important information should be passed on to us so we can put it on our website and in our Newsletter. We do not print the names of those we know are causing problems, but we do inform our neighbors so they too can be watchful, along with informing the police.

Call the Sheriff's Office at 847.377.4000 if you see a problem or potential problem. Thank you for your support and cooperation in keeping our community trouble free and safe.
